Turku continued..
Turku Cathedral- the mother church of the Lutheran Church of Finland, and the country's national shrine. It is seven hundred years old and is also regarded as one of the major records of Finnish architectural history. Turku is the oldest city in finland; emerging at the end of the thirteenth century as a major trading centre in Finland and at this time became the most important city in Finland, retaining this status for hundreds of years. It was in 1809 when Finland became part of the Russian Empire that the Grand Duchy of Finland was transferred to Helsinki in 1812.
